Road America HR

Description:
Road America is a four-mile permanent road course with 14 turns. It's located
halfway between Milwaukee and Green Bay in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin.

The track was built in 1955 after a ban on racing on public roads put a stop
to the races on the original Elkhart Lake track, which was a 5.3 mile track
around the lake with the same name.

Road America attracted big crowds to the major events throughout the 1950s
and 1960s and was hugely popular among club racers. It was a major CanAm
and Formula 5000 track in the 1960s and 1970s with TransAm also becoming
a regular event. In the late 1970s IMSA sportscars also arrived there.
Nowadays many sportcars and even motorcycle events are kept there regularly.
For example, the ALMS organization just extended their contract to the year
2008.

The track has been improved many times during these years, but the main layout is
still the same as it was in 1955. The track is one of the Skip Barber Racing school's
base locations and the Briggs & Stratton Motorplex (which is located outside of T8)
keep karting and other racing events there regularly.

Reckoned to be the best road course in the United States, Road America is a
track where the driver can make the difference.
